A Birth doula provides emotional, informational and physical support to the birthing woman (and her partner) and remains by the woman’s side during the entire labour. She helps moms manage labour with evidence-based methods of pain relief such as relaxation techniques, tension-releasing breathing, position changes, visualization and appropriate touch and massage. She does not, however, perform any medical procedures. A doula is not the same thing as a midwife! Doulas work in any birthing setting with midwives, doctors, obstetricians and nurses.
Postpartum doulas are professional care providers who are experienced in supporting families through the postpartum period – for when you return home with your new baby. They provide non-medical support to mothers and their families, helping to meet their practical and psycho-social needs and ease their transition from pregnancy to parenthood.Have a look through available doulas and find someone that will meet your individual specific needs.
The Comox Valley Doulas are a group of women from diverse backgrounds who offer professional, experienced labour support to childbearing women and their supporters before, during and immediately after the birth of their baby. Although we are a group, we are each a sole proprietor.
